From concept to reality: BMW Skytop spotted in testing phase

The BMW Skytop is getting closer to becoming a reality, and it’s safe to say the excitement is real. We first saw the concept last year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, set against the stunning scenery of Lake Como - and now, it looks like BMW is serious about turning it into a production car.

It’s already been spotted at the Nürburgring, still wearing some camouflage, but the shape and proportions clearly match the concept. And according to BMW, not much has changed. “We were able to carry over the concept car almost 1:1 into the small production series,” says Tobias Mühlbauer, Product Manager for the Skytop. “We only made changes where they improved the driving experience, everyday usability, or the overall quality.”

Everything about this car screams craftsmanship. From the unique headlights and crystal details to the leatherwork inside, all parts are individually made in a small-scale, high-end production process. The team behind it is small, experienced, and has worked on some of BMW’s most exclusive models.

Design-wise, the Skytop looks exotic and sporty, without losing that elegant, grand touring vibe. The sculpted body, sharp hood lines, classic Sharknose front, and the tight rear end all give off strong Z8 vibes - and that’s not a coincidence. It’s a modern interpretation of one of BMW’s most iconic roadsters.

And just like the Z8 back in the day, the Skytop delivers serious performance. It’s powered by BMW’s most powerful V8 - a 4.4-liter engine with 625 hp, paired with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. With xDrive onboard, it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.

BMW officially building this car is a dream come true for many fans. The Skytop blends old-school roadster style with modern performance and craftsmanship - and it's shaping up to be something truly special.
